Commercial Roof Repair for Pontefract Roofers

DPR Roofing Pontefract were called out to commercial premises on Monk Hill Lane recently when the roof of the rear sheds was damaged, leaving the building open to the elements and susceptible to water penetration in bad weather.

Following a detailed roof survey the roofers discovered that the existing GRP sheets had been damaged. In order to repair the damage DPR’s roofers had to remove the remnants of damaged GRP sheet and supply and fit new GRP sheets with the associated fixings.

GRP stands for Glassfibre Reinforced Plastics and it is a very versatile material. It is very strong at seven times the flexural strength of steel, however it is very lightweight. As a roofing system it is long lasting, attractive, cost effective, maintenance free & durable offering long term peace of mind and value for money.

Roofing Repairs for Pontefract Property

DPR roofing have recently completed a roof repair project on a property in Pontefract. They were contacted as the property was suffering from damp and water leakage.

DPR completed a thorough survey of the roofing and established that repair works were required. The lead step flashings to the outbuilding were loose and were allowing water ingression into the kitchen of the property. The slates to the roof of the outbuilding were also damaged which would inevitably cause leakage. The chimney flashings above the attic bedroom were leaking and allowing heavy penetrating dampness.

The repair project involved stripping out all of the lead flashings to the outbuilding and cleaning down mortar chasers. Then refitting the existing lead flashings with new plugs and a leadmate compound for ultimate water tightness. Removal of damaged slates and replacing with good quality second hand slates using code 4 lead straps and galvanised fixings. Strip out existing lead flashings and fitting of new extended code four lead work to allow further correct coverage to the double roman roof tiles. Replug and point using leadmate compound all step flashings into the chimney stack, including the gutter back.

DPR Roofers Required after Strong Winds Damage Roof

DPR’s roofers were called out to a property in Thorpe Audlin, Pontefract after gale force winds caused damage to the garage roof.

Following a detailed inspection DPR’s roofer discovered that the strong winds had caused extensive damage to the roof tiles, ridge tiles and the mortar bedding.

The project involved removal all four hips to the garage then cleaning down and disposing of all old mortar bedding. Where possible DPR then reset any salvaged ridge tiles to a new mortar bedding as well as supplying and fitting new ridge tiles where required. The mortar used was dyed to match the original mortar in order to compliment the appearance of the property.

Pontefract Roof Repairs After Strong Winds

DPR Roofing were called out to complete roof repairs to a property in Pontefract recently as strong winds had caused damage to the roof.

DPR completed a thorough inspection of the work and completed the resulting works. The project involved removing wind damaged verge caps to both verges, which were set aside so that they could be refit correctly. Stripping and setting aside for reuse of roof tiles to verge edge. Replacing any damaged fibre boards as required. Re-setting of verge tiles and fitting of verge caps to correct position, replacing verge caps which have become damaged beyond repair in storm as required.

A verge cap prevents the entry of birds and large insects into the ridge cavity. Birds will nest just about anywhere, including roof vents, wall vents, chimneys and roofs. The nests can be messy and can cause a fire hazard. Additionally the bird droppings can cause permanent damage to roofing materials.

A Well Maintained Roof Gathers No Moss

Moss growth on roofs can cause damage to the roof covering. It can block gutters and build up behind chimneys and gullies. Roofing materials like concrete tiles, slates, and cement can all become damaged by the growth of moss. Moss acts like a sponge by absorbing rain water and thereby increasing the weight and stress on the roof structure. When moss freezes it expands and can move the slates or tiles causing them to crack and leak.

DPR were called out by a customer in Pontefract recently due to the build up of moss on his roof and the poor condition of the verge and ridge line. After an initial survey was completed the project involved cleaning off of all moss build up to the roof covering, raking out and re-pointing of the defective verge, applying a pva bonding solution to affected areas and also the re-pointing all of the ridge back to good.

DPR Brings Air of Confidence to Pontefract Customer

Roof ventilation is an important part of roofing, as ventilation will extend the life of a roof and reduce problems caused by the temperature difference between the roof space and the outside air. Proper ventilation will remove moisture and heat from the attic which when trapped can raise energy costs and damage roof structures as well as personal items located inside the roof. DPR recently completed a project in Pontefract which involved the installation of four specialist roof ventilation units which have created an undisturbed air flow throughout the roof void of the property.

Whilst completing this project DPR were also asked to inspect the chimney stack as the occupants were concerned about its condition. On inspection it could be seen that the pointing of the chimney stack and flaunching of the chimney top was defective and could cause potential problems in the future. DPR cleaned down and repointed the chimney stack and re-flaunched the chimney top to ensure water tightness. Flaunching is the mortar base holding the chimney pot in position on top of the chimney stack.

Roof Repairs to Pontefract Home

DPR recently completed a project on a customer’s house in Pontefract. They were called out to inspect some damaged roof tiles and also to recommend some repair work for the porch roof. Following a detailed inspection the project involved removing badly laminated roof tiles to the front roof pitch which were causing a potential leakage problem and replacing them with good quality salvaged roof tiles. DPR also cleared all of the debris from the front elevation. Whilst inspecting the roof DPR realised that the glass roof light panel at the rear elevation was dangerously loose, therefore this was re-fixed and a bonding agent applied to secure it in place. The front porch ceiling had deteriorated and the fibre board was defective. DPR replaced this with new external grade HDF board. HDF is high density fibreboard and is a very strong, durable material with a good life expectancy if treat correctly.
