Rain Pain
The summer weather appears to be coming to an end, and the rain on Friday certainly showed that autumn is just around the corner.
As with all rain, it can fall very hard and be very intense, especially in the Yorkshire area, which can cause severe damage to your roof and the contents inside the house.
Here at DPR, we have been fixing roof leaks for a number of years, and know that the problems escalate during the first heavy rainfalls of the winter period.
Weighty rainfall will show up any problems in the roofs, and can also increase the risks of tiles or slates moving, which creates small gaps that water can penetrate through.
Rain can fall at any time which is why we also offer a 24 hour emergency service, so that if you do have a problem with your roof, it can be resolved quickly and get you back living your life as soon as possible.
Domestic roof repairs can be a simple process if you inform us as soon as the problem arises, and our surveys team will also be able to carry out a search on other areas of the roof which will help prevent this sort of damage happening again.
This is just one of our many roofing services we have in the Yorkshire area, which also include new roofs and commercial and domestic flat roofing.
Flat roofs are susceptible to water damage during heaving rain too, with water collecting on top if the current drainage is not quite right. This can put extra load and stress on the material, which could eventually lead to a crack or worst case scenario, the roof caving in.
To protect your contents under the flat roof, we can also come as check, as well as install, flat roofs that can last up for more than 10 years.
So if you have noticed some damp patches in the house, or become aware of a cracked or moved tile on the roof, then give us a ring on 0113 335 0043 before it is too late.
Queens Hotel Apartments Pontefract Roof Improvement
It is not only houses of factory buildings that DPR do roof maintenance on, but also some of the grandest places in Yorkshire.
Last month, our team of quality Pontefract roofers visited Queens Hotel Apartments in Pontefract to carry out routine roof maintenance work.
Due to the grand scale of the building and its situation within the town, DPR had to use their High Access platform, a tool that enables us to work on roofs within tight spaces and at great heights, to undertake this job.
The job was not at all small either, whit the historic location having some fine architecture that our engineers had to preserve and use colour matches so that the repair work did not stand out from the roof.
In total, the work undertaken cost a staggering £10,000 but DPR were efficient and our quality engineers were able to carry out the work with minimum disruption to the apartment owners or the general community.
Our Pontefract roof repair team are fully qualified to tackle any job whether big or small and are able to match old fashioned and new tiles seamlessly.
Queens Hotel Apartments are luxury apartments situated within the Pontefract area and across Yorkshire.
PCA Training Course for staff
One of DPR’s company values is the continued development of our staff, and that is why this September, many will be going on a training course, run by the PCA.
The PCA offers a wide range of training courses, including timber identification and site technician training, and is a recognised body within the roofing industry.
They act as a reference point and help teach engineers the tricks regarding problem issues and diagnosis to make work easier and remain on time to budget, key values of DPR.
There are many other reasons our superb staff also go on these courses, with a way of refreshing their understanding, and to keep up to date with any changes so that the consumer gets the best quality service, one of the prime examples.
The PCA has a mission statement that aims to: “Promote high standards of professionalism and expertise within the industry through training and other support services. To promote these standards outside the Association to ensure that members of the Property Care Association are perceived as the best providers in these specialist sectors: structural maintenance, timber preservation, damp and condensation control, flood protection and remediation and the control and management of invasive weeds.”
DPR believe in many of these aims and it is why we continue to develop our staff with them, as we seek to be the top roofing company within Yorkshire.
If you have any roofing needs within the Yorkshire area, and are looking for a registered and fully trained company, then give DPR a call on 0113 335 0043.
DPR add two brand new vans to fleet
DPR have just added two brand new 13 plate vans to the fleet as they progress as one of Yorkshires leading roofing services.
The addition of the new vans will mean they have more reliable vehicles as they continue to provide a 24 hour emergency service.
DPR pride themselves on professionalism and quality and this step is another indication that they seek to be the very best.
Solving that roof leak
With the hot weather coming to an end and the rain and autumn looming around the corner, homeowners across the Yorkshire region will be looking out for one thing- roof leaks.
Leaks to the roof often occur at the most inconvenient of times and can cause damage and destruction in a very short period, both to the ceilings and possessions.
Some tell tale signs water might be coming into the property can include some damp patches, mould growth or the dreaded water dripping through the ceiling.
The worst part about it all however, is that rarely does the water damage match where the problem may be on the roof.
That is why DPR have fully qualified engineers that understand the complex constructions of roofs and roof repairs, and thus can find the root of the problem fast and professionally.
Often a leak can be because of a cracked title or even moved tile and our expert engineers have the experience and tools needed to fit the roof and stop that leak.
They also have the skills required to help with the internal damages and can carry out extensive tests to make sure the water leak is coming from that area, all part of the aftercare package we offer to our customers.
If you notice any of the above problems, or for any other roofing requirements, call DPR on 0113 3470916.

Pontefract roof fully repaired by DPR
A couple from Pontefract called Pontefract roofers DPR to come and asses some damage to their roof and carry out some extensive repairs.
Most of the damage was the result of some poor workmanship and earlier repairs carried out by a previous roofing contractor - which had not lasted very long and in some cases was failing and allowing water into the property.
Upon inspection, DPR’s Pontefract roofers found that the lead slate around the soil stack was incorrectly fitted which meant the roof was not water tight in this area.
The inspection also found that the ridge tiles to the house and adjoining garage were in good condition but were loose and poorly bedded and pointed. The pointing to the chimney stack are was also deteriorating very quickly.
The garage roof was the worst affected area however. It was found to be suffering from poor quality repairs, rotting underfelt and fascia boards along with birds’ nests in the eaves.
After seeing the comprehensive written survey report and photographs, homeowners Mr and Mrs Berry instructed DPR to carry out the roof repairs.
The repairs were carried out to the highest standard and roofing ventilation was implemented to avoid condensation caused by the now banned Monarfol reinforced plastic underfelt (which was also removed).
The home and garage is now completely free of leaks having being completely repaired and when sending their payment for the works, Mr and Mrs Berry kindly wrote: ‘Thank you for the time and effort you put into the repairs.’
Re-roof of Pontefract bungalow receives compliments
The owner of a home in Pontefract recently contacted DPR Roofing to provide quotations on ways in which we would be able to repair some damage to his bungalow’s roof.
The first, and cheapest, option was to remove and replace all damaged and broken roof tiles and replace with new ones, as well as laying new mortar bedding for the new tiles and carrying out all pointing work.
The owner of the bungalow, Mr Topham, decided to splash out on the second option we presented to him – which was to install an entire new roof that would come with a 20 year guarantee.
With the scaffolding erected and the various health and safety precautions in place, the Pontefract roofers arrived at the property on Carlton Gate and set about dismantling the old roof by removing external coverings, ridge tiles and flashing, and disposing of them accordingly.
After a thorough clean-down the experienced roofing team began installing new high-quality breathable under felt. This negates the requirement for fixed and aesthetically unappealing roof vents which can detract from the overall appearance of the new roof.
Next the new flashing and inter-locking roof tiles, which protect against water ingress, were then fitted to the new mortar bedding.
Finally, an extensive clean-up was done to ensure that all resultant rubble was removed and disposed of at a suitable waste control site – to leave the property looking like new.
The work, and finished roof, was praised by the homeowner, Mr Topham, who kindly took the time to write this letter complimenting our work.
The letter read: I would also like to say how pleased I was with the quality of the work and the manner it was carried out.
Your workforce were excellent and performed their tasks in a highly efficient, friendly and clean manner.
Many thanks to all involved,
Kind regards,
Peter Topham

Pontefract Roofer Contacted by BBC
On Saturday the 16th February, Pontefract roofers ‘DPR’ Roofing installed a partial new garage profile roof at a property in Pudsey. The company was invited by the BBC to see if they could assist in the plight of a just burgled family as it was going to be filmed as part of their new daytime show ’Crime Scene Rescue’ which is scheduled to be aired in April. This is not the only time the BBC have used Pontefract roofers ‘DPR’ to assist in the making of television programmes as, only recently, DPR were called upon to provide rectification works for a job carried out by builders for the hit BBC television show, ‘Rogue Traders’.
Hosted by Rav Wilding, the new BBC show will provide families, who have been the victims of burglaries, with a fully repaired and upgraded house to hopefully help in compensating for the trauma of a burglary. The programme aims to highlight the costly and extensive building work that is sometimes required following a break-in or attempted burglary – which the offenders are oblivious to.
The house in Pudsey had been burgled with the intruders gaining entry by smashing through the rear patio doors. Once inside they stole a host of valuable items including jewellery and electrical products.
The burglars also broke into the garage outside by smashing a hole through the roof - though they left the garage empty handed as there was nothing of real value inside.
Experienced Pontefract roofers ‘DPR’ were asked by the show if they could repair the roof on the garage and make it watertight. DPR provided their services free of charge to the BBC show.
There was asbestos content present to the roof sheets so extra care was needed by the company’s specially trained staff to remove and dispose of the damaged sheets in line with proper environmental regulations, before fitting brand new, non-asbestos, roof sheets.
The job was carried out by DPR Roofing managing director Darren Rickett and experienced roofing manager, Andrew Cooper.
Darren said: “We were happy to carry out this particular job free of charge as it was a major boost for the Pudsey residents who were the victims of the burglary, plus it also brings the company exposure to a national audience.”
When asked how the Pontefract roofing contractors were selected for the job, Darren said: “The BBC simply found us on Google by searching ‘Pontefract roof repairs’ and were impressed by our testimonials, accreditations, and our commitment to providing the best possible roofing services in Pontefract following an onsite meeting between the show’s directors and myself to inspect and report on what was needed.”
The DPR team and other trades contractors were present for the ‘reveal’ in which the homeowners arrived home to find their house had been given a small makeover. The Pudsey home was treated to new patio doors and windows to match, a new state of the art alarm system, security lighting, new security fencing, a full makeover to the family room and DPR roof repairs.
Commercial Roof Repair for Pontefract Roofers
DPR Roofing Pontefract were called out to a commercial property after several leaks were discovered at the premises.
Roofers from DPR attended the property and carried out a detailed site survey. They discovered that repair works were required.
The roof repair project involved erecting of access equipment for safe working conditions on the roof coverings, including a power boom and tower scaffold system. The roofers could then repair leaks around soil stack outlet with use of our specialist fibreglass matting and fibreglass compound to seal the area to stop further ingression of water. They also cleaned out all of the gutters of build-up of moss, silt and debris to allow free flow and discharge of rainwater. Finally they repaired the leaking flashing area to the hip junction/apex with use of our specialist fibreglass matting and fibreglass compound to stop further ingression of water.
